Minutes of Dun Laoghaire Area Committee Meeting held on 24th September 2018 were considered and the following amendments to the  minutes were AGREED:

 

DLMUN/407/18Draft Control of Stationless On-Street Bike Hire Bye Laws 2018 Report further to Public Consultation 24th September, 2018 be amended to state:

 

“The report of the Executive was considered.

 

A discussion took place, during which Mr. Gerard Flaherty, Senior Executive Engineer responded to Members queries.

 

It was AGREED that Part IV(a) of  Draft Control of Stationless On-Street Bike Hire Bye Laws would be AMENDED.

 

and  DLMUN/408/18  Draft Control Of On-Street Car Club Bye-Laws 2018 of 24th September, 2018  be amended to state:

 

“The report of the Executive was considered.

 

A discussion took place, during which Mr. Gerard Flaherty, Senior Executive Engineer responded to Members queries.

“That the Chief Executive agree to procuring a survey of Sorrento Park, Dalkey, with a view to its renovation which would realise the huge potential of the park.  The renovation is justified because of the parks historic interest but more importantly because of the contribution it could make to community life and to tourism in the area.”

 

It was agreed that this Item would be discussed with Item 26, 27, 28, 32 and 34.

 

The report of the Executive was CONSIDERED and AGREED.

 

It was AGREED that a headed item on the development of a Master Plan for Sorrento Park will be brought to a future meeting of the Dún Laoghaire Area Committee Municipal Services Meeting.

“That this Area Committee agrees that the Chief Executive would now prepare an environmental scheme for the re-development of Sorrento Park, Dalkey, in conjunction with Dalkey Tidy Towns Committee, and would include the following works:

(a) Re-paving of the bandstand area, securing existing granite steps and re-surfacing of remainder of pathways.
(b) Clear and thin out some of the gorse and overgrowth, to open up the area as a unique viewing vista. New planting to be carried out with the prospect of having the Park designated a pollination one.
(c) Install signage at entry points to the Park to include its history.

And that consideration be given to providing the necessary finance in next year's budget.”

 

It was agreed that this Item would be discussed with Item 25, 27, 28, 32 and 34.

“That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to allocate the necessary funding and resources to complete the outstanding works at Sorrento Park, Dalkey including; paving and stone repairs, the clearing and thinning of shrubs / bushes, designating it as a Pollinator Park and planting appropriate plants and installing the necessary services, signage and historical panels within Sorrento Park and for a report to be provided on same.”

 

It was agreed that this Item would be discussed with Item 25, 26, 28, 32 and 34.

“That this Committee commends the Dalkey Tidy Towns committee for all the hard work they have put in, in particular, to Dillons Park and Sorrento Park in the absence of these parks being looked after by the Council, and agrees that both Dillons Park and Sorrento Park should be put on the regular schedule of works for the Parks Department to ensure that they are cleaned and regularly cut back.”

“That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to bring a plan to this Area Committee within 3 month setting out in detail,  with timelines, the proposals for the green space at Loughlinstown Wood and the immediate surrounding area and roads. The plan to include proposals for pitches, changing facilities, parking, passive recreational area and the adjoining Natural Heritage area.”

“That this Area Committee agrees that the huge and still-growing trees planted in the Sewage Pumping Station at the West Pier be cut back, as they are completely obscuring the view for residents in Salthill Apartments; they are not in the public domain, and are causing distress to a large number of people.”

“That, the Chief Executive, given the pitiful state of the mosaic of John Dowland (1563-1626) in Sorrento Park, Dalkey, (details supplied) to obtain an assessment of the works required to professionally restore this mosaic and, in conjunction with any restorative works to be undertaken by the Council on Sorrento Park, that the Council commissions such historical research as may be required to ascertain his connections, if any, with the Heritage Town of Dalkey and to provide a brief account of his life and works to include a bibliography of works published on Dowland, to enable the Council to promote this aspect of Dalkey’s heritage in conjunction with Dalkey Tidy Towns Committee and Dalkey Castle and Heritage Centre.”

 

It was agreed that this Item would be discussed with Item 25, 26, 27, 28 and 34.
