Councillor J. Gildea This item was proposed by Councillor J. Gildea and Seconded by C. Smyth
“That this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to investigate the possibility of providing further funding now to enable protection and stabilisation works to be carried out on the section of cliff face at Corbawn, Shankill between Clontra and the point where the remedial works currently underway finish. It is noted that the bulk of the infrastructure for carrying out remedial works at the cliff face is already in place due to the current works at the access point to the beach and furthermore it is noted that due to the height of the cliffs at this point a considerable amount of the green area at Corbawn Estate will have to be removed as part of the works due to the need to ‘taper’ the cliff face. If the protection works are not done now there is a risk that the tapering of the cliff face at some point in the future will expose the main sewerage pipe which runs parallel to the cliff face. A dump which was used by the builder during construction of Corbawn Estate has become exposed on the cliff face.”
