Following a lengthy discussion, the Director of Municipal Services responded to questions from the Members.

 

It was AGREED Tom McHugh the Director of Municipal Services to circulate a report clarifying the submissions received from the public consultation to all councillors and that this item would be brought to the March County Council Meeting.

Chairperson, Councillor U. Power, advised the Members that the following motion was handed up from the floor.

 

It was PROPOSED by Councillor H. Lewis and SECONDED by Councillor M. Halpin

 

“That this Committee notes the lack of clarity and input in the report under item 3 from the public consultation process regarding the proposed increases in parking charges, we call on the council management to provide a full breakdown of the stated 764 submissions. This will involve a clear indication of the level of dissatisfaction or support with the increases in parking charges first proposed and supported by the majority of members at the budget 2020 meeting held in November. Such a report is needed to provide elected representatives with clarity regarding the public’s views on these proposed increases.”

“That the Chief Executive to trial the 'School Streets' Initiative around the schools in Holly Park, in order to reduce congestion, unsafe parking and blocking of footpaths, road safety risks due to vehicular movements, children being exposed to excess air pollution, and car-dependent children being less physically active.”

Following a discussion which Sean McGrath, Senior Engineer responded to Members queries and it was agreed to arrange a meeting with the ward councillors, the residents and the school.

"That this Committee calls on the Chief Executive to implement traffic calming and road safety measures on Cross Avenue, Blackrock, specifically, but not limited to, a signalised pedestrian crossing between the church of St. Philip and James and the back entrance of Blackrock College where there is significant pedestrian traffic at certain times of the day and a substantial danger to children arises from fast flowing traffic."
