Draft Climate Change Action Plan pdf icon PDF 16 MB

Declan McCormac, Codema, gave a presentation on the DLR Draft Climate Change Action Plans.  Under the National Adaptation Framework Local Authorities are required to submit a sectorial climate change adaptation plan by September 30th 2019.   The Plan gathers all current and future actions in one document.


Declan spoke on the four main targets of the Plan:


33% reduction in Council energy by 2020.  DLR is in line to reduce energy use targets by 2020.


Make Dublin a climate resilient region


40% reduction in the Council’s greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2030.


Active engagement with Citizens on Climate Action.



The Action Areas are

1.  Energy and Buildings

2.  Transport

3.  Flood resilience

4.  Nature based Solutions


DLR has signed up to the Covenant of Majors which has ambitious plans of a reduction of 40% in emissions.


Timeline for Draft Plan

Public consultation period – January – March 2019

April 2019 – Presentation to Environment SPC

May 2019 – Presentation to Full Council

Plan goes live in June


Following a discussion, the report on the draft Climate Change Action Plan was NOTED.

The Chair, Cllr. Hand asked the members about holding the next SPC meeting in the New Year as there had been four SPC meetings held already this year.



Following questions from members Cllr. Seamas O’Neill enquired if a meeting could be arranged with the ESB regarding sub-stations.  Austin Baines will ask the ESB for a meeting.
