Confirmation and Adoption of Minutes It was proposed by Councillor C. Devlin and secondedby Councillor J. Gildea and agreed that the minutes of the meeting of Dun Laoghaire Area Committee (Municipal Services Business) meeting held on 25th April 2016 be CONFIRMED and ADOPTED.

REPORT FROM IRISH WATER It was proposed by Councillor H. Lewis, seconded by Councillor M. Merrigan “That the Chief Executive brings a comprehensive report from Irish Water on the leak at Claremont Grove in Killiney that has been extant now for a number of years.”
An amended Motion was submitted from the floor: ”That this committee calls on Irish Water to fix any outstanding leaks in Claremont Grove, Killiney for which it is responsible, and to send a comprehensive report on the issue to this committee.”
Following a brief discussion during which the Chief Executive responded to members queries, the report of the Chief Executive was CONSIDERED and AGREED

Suspension of Standing Orders It was proposed by Councillor J. Bailey, seconded by Councillor C. Devlin, M. Merrigan, M. Fayne, P. Stewart,”That in accordance with Standing Order 38(b) this Area Committee agrees to the suspension of Standing Orders in order to deal with an urgent matter of serious public concern and to consider the following Motion from the Floor:
That this Area Committee agrees to write to the Chief Superintendent of An Garda Siochana in Dun Laoghaire, with a copy to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, outlining the very serious concerns expressed by residents and businesspersons in central Dun Laoghaire at the huge increase in illegal drug activities in the town over the past three weeks, including open dealing on the streets, injecting in the laneways adjacent to Lower George’s Street, violent behaviour amongst drug users, discarding of dangerous drug-abuse paraphernalia, including blood filled syringes in public areas, intimidating staff in local shops, cafes and pubs, and frightening residents, particularly the elderly and parents with young children attending the town’s primary schools. The Area Committee calls on the Chief Superintendent to increase the Garda prescence in the area on an ongoing basis and to include patrols of the laneways in the centre of the town.” The report of the Chief Executive was considered and AGREED

OLD YELLOW STREET SIGNS It was proposed by Councillor Merrigan, seconded by Councillor Bailey:
“That, this Area Committee requests the Chief Executive to explore the possibility of creating a photographic and GPS inventory of the old yellow street signs in the areas covered by this Area Committee with a view of preserving these signs in situ, where practicable, and providing for the on-going maintenance of these signs as part of the heritage of the former Urban Districts of Blackrock, Dún Laoghaire and Dalkey,” (see: https://www.flickr.com/photos/91590691@N05/sets/72157646399467692/ for examples of these signs possibly dating from the 1930s.)
