Of the survey papers returned by the closing date, 21 were in favour of the introduction of Pay and Display parking in the area, while 3 were against. This is in spite of a loss of parking bays and is also in marked contrast to the results of a similar survey undertaken in 2001.

N11/ Brewery Road junction Safety Improvement Scheme The presentation was given by Caroline Butler of Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates.
It was queried why the presentation and drawing were not provided before the meeting. John Broderick, A/Senior Engineer, Traffic Section replied that the scheme is still at a preliminary stage, the drawings are still under consideration and will go to public consultation and then (if agreed) on to tender.
The cost of the scheme (€460k) was queried. It was confirmed that some of its funding will come from the TII/NRA, although the percentage thereof has not yet been decided.
Councillor Gildea asked stated that he is not in favour of the scheme.

“That this Committee call on the Chief Executive to carry out a detailed traffic and pedestrian analysis of the junction at Pearse Street and Upper Sallynoggin Road with a view to implementing an improved traffic management system for the area.”
An amendment to the motion was handed to the Chairperson.

Ward “That the Chief Executive writes to Irish Rail seeking the following information: · What is the staffing status of the following stations? (how many staff and duration of their presence) · What are the proposals for staffing at these stations for the next 2 years? · Which of those stations have full wheelchair access: (stations: Booterstown, Blackrock, Seapoint, Salthill & Monkstown, Dún Laoghaire (Mallin), Sandycove & Glasthule, Glenageary, Dalkey, Killiney, Shankill)?
It was requested that the Traffic Section writes to Irish Rail before the minutes of this meeting are approved in late September. Councillor Stewart asked if the line “we request a timely response” be added at the end of the letter. The report of the A/Senior Engineer, Traffic Section was AGREED.

“That the Chief Executive presents for discussion/review to this Area Committee the Draft Shankill Traffic Management Scheme (commissioned some years ago) in light of the impending development of lands at Woodbrook and Shanganagh Castle in order to determine the extent of any impact from increased traffic flow through Shankill Village.”

“That the Chief Executive reports on the Blue Flag at Killiney Beach.”
A discussion took place in which it was recommended that the very high standard of water quality in the county should be emphasised on our website. The link www.beaches.ie could be added thereto, as it includes relevant statistics on water quality etc.
Further tests on water samples will be undertaken by the laboratory in Dublin City Council. Councillor P. Stewart suggested that researchers in UCD could be asked to track down the causes of water pollution.
The need for extra dog wardens and the enforcement of legislation was discussed. Martin Allidine, A/Director of Services, Municipal Services will discuss these issues with Austin Baines, Senior Executive Officer, Infrastructure and Climate Change and revert back to the Members.
