“That this Committee discusses the need for electric car charging facilities in the vicinity of this Area Committee with a focus on the provision of fast charging facilities?”
A decision was made to write to the Minister for Transport on the issues raised.

PARKING REFORM FOR DÚN LAOGHAIRE TOWN It was proposed by Councillor D. O’Keeffe and seconded by Councillor M. Halpin
“That this Committee agrees to discuss parking reform for Dún Laoghaire town and to consider the introduction of a number of free 1 hour max stay parking bays”

MARINE ROAD AND GEORGE’S STREET UPPER It was proposed by Councillor P. Stewart and seconded by Councillor J. Bailey
“That the Chief Executive gives a much clearer marking of uncontrolled crossings on Marine Road and George's Street Upper in Dún Laoghaire and a public information campaign to support this, with signage if deemed necessary.”
Councillor Stewart stated that she had put forward two motions but only one of them is on this agenda; she hopes that the other one will appear on the next agenda.
Councillor Stewart also suggested that a public information video on uncontrolled crossings should be compiled by the I.T. Section.

PUBLIC TOILETS, EAST PIER, DÚN LAOGHAIRE It was PROPOSED by Councillor D. O’Keeffe and SECONDED by Councillor M. Halpin
“That in keeping with the Council’s age friendly strategy and recognising the huge volume of people that use Dún Laoghaire pier, this Committee agrees to reopen the public toilets on the east pier.”
Councillor P. Stewart requested that further correspondence be issued in stronger terms to the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company who own the land in question.

ATTAINMENT TANK CAPACITY It was PROPOSED by Councillor P Stewart and SECONDED by Councillor J. Gildea
“That the Chief Executive writes to Irish Water asking them to increase their attainment tank capacity in order to reduce the need to discharge contaminated water into Dublin Bay after heavy rain. This destroys the amenity of the swimming areas and could endanger our Blue Flag status. It is the responsibility of Irish Water to make better arrangements to protect the waters of Dublin Bay.”

“That the Chief Executive report on the following in relation to the public lighting provision on Avoca Avenue, section between the crossroads with Grove Avenue and the junction with Avoca Park:-
1. Survey the level of lighting as currently there are many areas that are in the darkness. 2. These areas of darkness can be very dangerous for cyclists as drivers only see them in the brighter areas. 3. What improvements can be made to improve the overall lighting provision? 4. When will the improvements be put in place.”

“That the Chief Executive prepares a detailed report on the current state of the pavements and road surfaces on Dominick Street, St. Mary’s Street and St. Brendan’s Terrace in central Dún Laoghaire for presentation to the next Area Committee Meeting, with an outline plan for the upgrading of these small residential streets to the standard of all surrounding streets in that area.”

“That, the Chief Executive publishes on the Council’s website or circulates to the Members of this Area Committee a copy of the report commissioned by the Heritage Officer from a professional historian on the origin, etymology and history of the place-name Dún Laoghaire and any commentary attaching to same concerning accuracy or otherwise of the traditional foundation narrative associated with the place-name.”

“That this Committee in light of the fact that the lands at Shanganagh Castle will be required for housing purposes in the very near future this Area Committee calls on The Chief Executive to take whatever actions she deems necessary to ensure that new allotments are provided in the Shankill area by the start of the 2018 season. It is noted that the vast majority of existing plots at Shanganagh Castle are in active use and that the loss of the facility for a season would be disruptive and unfair to the current leaseholders.”
